Two questions people always ask

01

What exactly is Genius?

Genius is the electronic memory game Estrela has been making since 1978 โ€” the same game known abroad as Simon. It's a round console with four colored pads: green, red, yellow and blue. Each pad lights up and plays its own note.

The game shows you a sequence โ€” one light, then two, then three โ€” and your job is to repeat it back in the same order. Every round you clear adds one more step. Miss a step and the round ends. A full game takes about two minutes, and there is nothing to read, install or set up: you press start and play.

02

Why is it good for your memory?

Because it works the exact skill that everyday forgetfulness lives in: working memory โ€” the mental notepad that holds a phone number, a shopping list, or the reason you walked into the kitchen. Each round asks you to hold a growing sequence in your head, in the right order, and then reproduce it.

  • Order matters, not just content. The same skill you use for the steps of a recipe or directions across town.
  • Two senses at once. Every step arrives as a color and a tone, so you encode it twice.
  • It punishes drifting. One lapse in attention ends the round โ€” so focus is part of the exercise.
  • It gets harder as you get better. The sequence grows with you, so it never settles into something easy.
  • Instant feedback. You know right away whether you got it, which is what keeps people coming back.

It's exercise for your attention and short-term recall, the way a crossword is โ€” not a treatment for anything. What it reliably gives you is a few focused minutes a day and a score you can watch climb.
